A coordinated ransomware attack has disrupted operations at port authorities in Houston, Savannah, and Long Beach, causing significant delays to shipping and logistics across the Gulf and Pacific coasts. The attack targeted shared logistics management software used by all three facilities.
The Department of Homeland Security has activated its Cyber Incident Response Team and is coordinating with the FBI and Coast Guard. Ships are being diverted to alternative ports while manual processing procedures are implemented as a temporary measure.
The attack is believed to be the work of a state-sponsored group, though attribution is still being determined. Supply chain experts estimate the disruption could cost the US economy up to $800 million per day if not resolved quickly.
